While, of course, one purpose of this is to make it easier for anyone to follow my development through art, the main purpose is for me to be able to look back on my work and find common elements. I'm hoping that, by doing this, I can further develop myself and come closer to finding my niche in the art realm.
Most successful, or happy (with their work at least), artists have found themselves a niche, or a more focused path that their art follows. I have yet to find mine. I LOVE everything I've tried so far as mediums go: charcoal, colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, inks, acrylics, and oils. While I do have favorites (Watercolors and Inks), it is mainly because of their ease and quickness with which they work and their ease of transportation that makes them special to me, but I also appreciate the smooth texture and richness of oils, the thick texture and quick-drying of acrylics, the tones of charcoal and pastels, and the waxy texture and blending qualities of colored pencils! So, as you can see, I can't pick a medium, haha!
Now, I DO know my favorite subjects are people. I love the human form. I love everything about it, from the shadows and shapes to the flowing of the limbs and the textures of the skin and hair. I also love free flowing designs, usually from simple lines and patterns, and this includes floral as well. I'm actually pretty positive I want to stick to these things in the long run... I just hope I find a way to incorporate these things into a working composition, in a way that I can learn from it, and change, improve, and make it overall original to myself. To create my own unique style.
So step one is complete. Wish me luck!
